Lactarius salmonicolor R. Heim & Leclair
Fruit body: cap up to 15 cm, expanded and depressed in centre, slightly slimy, faintly zonate, orange-pink, slightly or not turning green, margin remains involute for long. Gills are crowded, orange-pink. Stem is up to 10x3 cm, colour more or less as cap, partially ornamented with shallow orange pits.
Microscopy: spores broadly ellipsoid, ornamented with network, 8—10x6.5—7.5 μm, cream en masse with pink hues.
Flesh: bright orange, darker towards margin, somewhat bitter taste. Milk is pinkish-orange, unchanging or slowly turning to brown and shades of wine colour, without distinct smell and faint bitter taste.
Habitat: season summer to autumn, under fir (Abies).
Edibility: edible.
