Hygrophorus russula (Schaeff.) Kauffman
Fruit body: cap up to 15 cm, fleshy, rounded then expanded, with wine-red spots on bright surface. Gills are crowded, adnate, whitish, with wine-red sprinkles. Stem is up to 12x3 cm, narrower towards base, paler than cap.
Microscopy: spores ellipsoid to ovoid, 7-9x5.5-6.5 μm.
Flesh: whitish, with red sprinkles, without distinct smell, sweetish to somewhat sour taste.
Habitat: under deciduous trees, especially under oak (Quercus), on warm, calcareous terrains.
Edibility: edible.
