Cantharellus cibarius Fr.
CHANTERELLE
Fruit body: height up to 15 cm. Clearly distinct irregularly shaped cap is at first flat then depressed, width up to 10 cm. Stem is solid, with vein-like protuberances wich are descending from the bottom of the cap. The whole fungus is yellow.
Microscopy: Spores ellipsoid to slightly kidney-shaped, smooth, hyaline, nonamyloid, 7-10x4-5.5 μm, bright yellow en-masse. Basidia have 4 spores. Cystidia absent.
Flesh: Yellowish on the surface, brighter in centre, fibrous, with pleasant smell which reminds of apricot, taste at first sweetish then sharp.
Habitat: From middle of summer to mid-autumn in deciduous and conifer woods.
Edibility: Edible and priced fungus, collected at large for commercial purposes.
