SATAN'S BOLETE

Fruit body: cap up to 30 cm, fleshy, rounded then expanded, velvety, almost white. Tubes are yellow, then greenish, slightly blueing when touched; pores are red, blueing when touched. Stem is up to 15x12 cm, bulbous, yellow or yellowish on top, red towards base, covered with fine red reticulum.

Microscopy: spores subfusiform, 12-15x5-6 μm, brown-olive en masse.

Flesh: thick, whitish-yellow, slightly blueing when cut, mild and unpleasant smell.

Habitat: in warm deciduous woods on calcareous terrains.

Edibility: poisonous, causing gastrointestinal symptoms.
